Talkington School for Young Women Leaders
Project Overview
The Talkington School for Young Women Leaders (SYWL) in Lubbock, Texas, significantly expanded its arts facilities with the opening of a new fine arts wing in 2022. As of 2026, these facilities continue to serve as a hub for the school’s award-winning performing arts programs
The Challenge
The new Fine Arts auditorium required an acoustic solution that supported clear speech and musical performance while complementing the space’s contemporary architectural design. Large wall surfaces, high ceilings, and integrated theatrical lighting created a need for effective sound control without disrupting sightlines, lighting patterns, or the clean geometry of the room. The challenge was to deliver balanced acoustics and visual impact in a highly technical performance environment.
Our Solution
Redbud wall-mounted baffle and acoustical panel systems were designed to provide targeted sound absorption while enhancing the auditorium’s contemporary aesthetic. Vertical wood baffles and sculptural acoustic panels were integrated into the side and rear wall planes to control reflections, improve speech intelligibility, and support musical performance. Carefully coordinated with lighting, doors, and architectural features, the wall treatments deliver high-performance acoustics while creating a striking visual backdrop for the Fine Arts program.
